Armed Forces Day celebrations across the UK

the seventh Armed Forces Day took place on Saturday 27th June and over 150 events were held across the UK to mark the celebration. The main focus of attention was at the National Event in Guildford, attended by His Royal Highness The Duke of York and Prime Minister David Cameron.

The event hosted a parade of more that 900 service personnel, veterans and cadets who marched through the historic streets of Guildford. In addition, crowds of an estimated 60,000 witnessed three parachute displays from the Royal Navy Raiders, the Army Red Devils and the RAF Falcons, an air display by The Red Arrows as well as a demonstration from the Royal Signals White Helmet motorbike Display Team on the ground.

The Prime Minister David Cameron said: “Today, we celebrate our brave servicemen and women who work so hard to keep our country safe. It’s only right that once they leave the Forces, we give them the support they need to find a job.”

“We also have a responsibility to our reservists and the families of our military personnel for the sacrifices they make. So for the first time we will help them to find work too. And today we are also calling on the private sector to play its part – by signing up to the Armed Forces Covenant to help reservists and veterans into work.”

Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach said during the event in Guildford: “I’m delighted to see the people of Guildford leading today’s Armed Forces Day celebrations on behalf of the United Kingdom. Armed Forces Day is a chance for people to say thank you to the extraordinary men and women all over the world who dedicate their lives to protecting our safety and security.”
