Migrant sea measures to be strengthened
DB News: 07/06/2016 - 09:51
It has been reported that the government plans to strengthen defences against migrants crossing illegally by sea into the UK.
Following recent news that 20 people, mostly Albanians, were rescued in the Channel off Kent after their inflatable boats ran into trouble, there will likely be increased collaboration between the UK Border Force and the Royal Navy. At present, the Border Force only has three vessels operating at any one time in the seas off Britain.
Bernard Barron, president of the Calais coastguard, warned British media in May that the Channel risks facing the same tragic scenes that the Mediterranean is enduring, with migrants taking increasingly desperate risks to get on to British shores.
