Russia will target coalition jets in Syria
DB News: 20/06/2017 - 11:02
The Russian defence ministry says Russia will treat US-led coalition planes as targets in government-controlled areas of Syria west of the Euphrates River.
The defence ministry said in a statement that it will start tracking all jets and drones from the coalition in the area soon. It comes a day after the US shot down a Syrian air force jet, of which the defence ministry demand a full account.
Areas of the northern Syria west of the Euphrates were controlled by Islamic State until recently when Syrian government forces took the majority of the region back.
The downing of the warplane is the first time that the US has shot down a Syrian jet in the conflict.
