Anti-Terror Measures identified for top UK Sites

Over three hundred “high priority” sites have been focussed on to prevent acts of terrorism the National counter-terror police have announced

The sites, including  regional shopping centres, major sporting arenas, places of worship and educational institutions, have been earmarked for preventative security measures by the National Counter Terrorism Security Office (NaCTSO).

NaCTSO’s network of Counter Terrorism Security Advisers (CTSAs) identified the 350 from a massive survey of 25,000 sites which could be considered potential targets by terrorists.

Det Sgt Phil Chesworth of NaCTSO said: “These were initially assessed to look at their attractiveness as targets for terrorist acts.

“Risk assessments were then performed on high to medium high priority sites – ones which attract thousands of people on a yearly basis.

“We try to be a bit innovative in some of the recommendations we make for preventative security.”

It is understood this will be an ongoing project and will focus on specific events taking place on the sites.
