UK to provide further support to Ukrainian Armed Forces

Defence Secretary Michael Fallon has confirmed the UK will provide a £971,000 gift package as part of its non-lethal support to the UAF.

The equipment will include 170 large tents, 170 heating units and 600 sets of cold weather clothing.

Fallon said: “The UK is committed to supporting Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity.
“That is why we are providing this gift of non-lethal equipment, to further help prevent Ukrainian fatalities and casualties, strengthen their defensive capability and build their resilience.”

Despite a ceasefire agreement, UAF personnel remain stationed in the areas affected by conflict and continue to suffer fatalities and casualties. The gift package has been deigned to prevent further Ukranian fatilites and casualties to help improve resilience on the ground, thus strengthening the defensive capability of the UAF.

The declaration of support follows another announcement made my Fallon to increase the number of UK training personnel based in Ukraine. From April 2016, 25 additional UK personal will join the base taking the total number to 100 people.
