Police intercept drones carrying drugs
DB News: 22/08/2016 - 12:06
Police have intercepted drones carrying a large amount of drugs and mobile phones as they were being flown near HMP Pentoville, a North London jail.
One drone crashed after it was tracked flying over the jail on 14 August, while another drone was seized mid-flight later the same day.
Detective Chief Inspector Steve Heatley said the drones ‘carried a substantial amount of Class B drugs, legal highs and a large quantity of mobile phones’.
He added: “We are able to intercept them thanks to the vigilance of officers and the public.”
The operations were recovered as part of Operation Airborne and involved officers investigating attempts to smuggle contraband in the prison over the weekend of 12-14 August.
