Britain to double personnel in Far East war games

The exercises are run by the Five Powers, which is compromised of Britain, Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and Singapore. Britain will increase participation from 100 personnel to 200 by 2021.

Royal Marines, Navy divers, warfare planners, anti-mine experts, amphibious command and land command units will take part in a exercise in Malaysia next year, with RAF Typhoons taking part the following year.

The increase is significant as Cameron has said he wants to assert a ‘broader footprint’, after the closure of all British military bases east of Suez as the British empire was wound down.
